Needles for tight knitters

If you are a tight knitter, try Addi Turbo needles. They are very smooth and your stitches will slide off.

Large needles

I like knitting on large needles. Quick results make me happy. For a quick summer top, try Ole-Ole by Reynolds on size 9 needles.

Securing fringe

If your fringe yarn is very slippery, your knots will come loose. We've found Dritz Fray-Chek is a great way to secure these knots.

Alpaca

Alpaca in any gauge is my favorite classic yarn. It is soft, light, and warm when you need it to be.

Keeping momentum

When you are working on a long or challenging project, always have a quick or simple project going at the same time. A little reward can help you keep the momentum going on your main project.

Favorite yarns

The store is full of yarns and we're always getting something new, but my two favorites are Tahki's Cotton Classic for my grandchildren, and Lamb's Pride worsted (Brown Sheep)> I love the mohair fuzz.

Getting the right size

Don't forget your gauge swatch. Swatch swatch swatch swatch . . .

Read carefully

Read your instructions carefully! Nothing like being almost done, then reading "double strand"!

Summer yarns

For the summer, I recommend Cascade Sierra or Reynold's Ole Ole. Both are great cottons to work with.

Another quick knit

I love shells and vests - no sleeves! A shell pattern I loved was Cabin Fever's patter #253. ALL the finishing was done as part of the knitting!

Don't overfelt!

Felting is an art, not a science. But the mistake we see most often is over-felting. It usually isn't necessary to felt until all the stitches disappear! If in doubt, check your pattern for finished dimensions.

Eucalan

Did you know? Dry cleaning strips essential oils from animal fibers, and Woolite is almost as harsh. Instead, we recommend Eucalan wool wash. It contains eucalyptus oil, a natural moth repellant, and lanolin, so it actually restores instead of stripping. It is also no-rinse!

Not all needles are equal

If you are changing brands of needles or crochet hooks, be advsied that not all are equal. Addi US #2 are 3.0 mm, Susan Bates US #2 are 2.75. You can use this if you can't get gauge on one brand.

Stretched cotton sweater

Is your cotton sweater stretching? Try dampening it, Then putting it in the dryer for a short time. It should go back to its original size.
